Welcome to the Edinburgh Go Club! The game of Go is an ancient board game from the Far East, known as 围棋 (wei qi) in Chinese, 囲碁 (igo) in Japanese, and 바둑 (baduk) in Korean. It's been around for about 4000 years, and has changed very little in that time - the rules are incredibly simple, but the possibilities are immense. Despite advances in artificial intelligence, computers are still light years from being able to take on the professionals.

We are a thriving club, and our numbers continue to swell all the time. Each week, we have on average between 8 and 12 players, ranging in strength from beginners to more seasoned players (30 kyu up to 2 dan). Whilst Go may seem a daunting and frustratingly complex game, it is in actual fact surprisingly easy to pick up, and there are always plenty of players eager to teach new recruits! Of course, the most important thing is to have fun, which is something we do in abundance!
So, regardless of whether you're an experienced player or just curious as to what all the fuss is about, come along and give it a try. Not only is Go an endlessly fascinating game to play, but you'll get to meet some great new people, and we guarantee that you'll be coming back for more!
We have a fairly comprehensive library of Go books and magazines that can be borrowed, including a number of titles that are now out of print. Members of the British Go Association can also purchase a wide selection of books from the bookshop.
